  • Softball stung by ’Nova in weekend rematch

Sometimes having the most wins isn’t enough to take y move for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.Linked with several Premier League clubs this season, Foot Mercato says Wolves are showing the most serious interest in the youngster from England.Napoli are also in contact about a January deal.Indeed, ihome first place.

Despite a tournament-best 3-1 record this weekend, Penn finished second overall in the Penn Spring Invitational behind Villanova.

After falling to the Quakers in the tournament opener on Friday, the Wildcats turned the tables in the championship contest on Sunday afternoon, capturing a 3-2 victory at Penn Park.

The Red and Blue (13-10) swept their opening three games against ’Nova, Rider and Army, and the one-two punch of freshman Alexis Borden and sophomore Mikenzie Voves gave up just two earned runs in 19 innings during those games.

Meanwhile, Penn’s bats came alive, as Jessica Melendez hit the first home run of the spring season at Penn Park against Villanova on Friday afternoon, which lifted the Quakers to a 3-1 win.

Though the Quakers did not finish the weekend unscathed, the tournament revealed a team that is poised to hit its stride just in time for Ivy League competition.

Saturday morning, Penn lit up Rider for nine runs, including back-to-back home runs from Melendez and Georgia Guttadauro. The team cruised to a five-inning, mercy-rule 9-1 victory as Voves picked up the complete game win.

The matchup against Army, however, was a different beast entirely. While Penn had eight hits against Rider, the team managed just two against Army. But patience at the plate yielded 10 walks and six runs, allowing the Quakers to overcome an early 3-0 deficit to ultimately secure a 6-3 victory.

In the Sunday afternoon game against the Wildcats, it was Villanova who came from behind. In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Karina Rios put Penn ahead, 2-1, with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Jessica Melendez, who had reached base on an error.

However, Villanova responded with a solo home run from Briana Fujii in the sixth to tie the game again, 2-2. The Wildcats scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh on a double to right field off the bat of pitcher Molly Manning, who held the Quakers scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to seal the deal.

The four games this weekend marked the first long stint the Quakers have played at their new stadium at Penn Park, and the experience received glowing reviews from the team, despite the overcast weather Saturday and Sunday.

“I’m pretty sure I speak they're to sign Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. The Mirror says City are still in the hunt for £80million-rated Maguire – but must offload Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala to fund the deal. The domestic treble winners are wary of Financ for everyone when we say we don’t really like playing away anymore,” Melendez said.

Though the playing field seemed flawless this weekend, the Quakers defense was not, racking up nine errors. Ironing out mistakes like these will be one of the focuses of practice in the next week, according to coach Leslie King, who is confident the team will be ready when Ivy League play begins Friday against Brown.

In fact, King sees somrsene Wenger is happy seeing Andre Villas-Boas in charge of Marseille.Wenger feels Villas-Boas took the Chelsea job too soon.He said, "He may have been a little young at the time when he came to Chelsea. He took little break and sometimes it does note of these slip-ups as a sign of a team that is going to hit its stride at just the right time.

“I don’t want to be peaking at the end of March,” King said. “I want to be peaking at the end of April going into May.”

  • Seddon confused, corks team's aluminum bats

(This article appeared in the 3/31/03 joke issue)

In an exclusive interview with local CBS sports anchor Beasley Reese, Penn baseball coach Bob Seddon disclosed the secrets to his success and longevity.

Seddon recently eclipsed the 600-win mark with a victory over Columbia in his 33rd year as head coach of the Quakers.

"The greatest pleasure that I have had as coach is to cork the bats of my players' over years," Seddon said. "There's really nothing like getting the old blow torch out to fill up some aluminum with solid cork."

The admission left Reese dumfounded as to the reason one would fill an aluminum bat with cork to gain an advantage.

"Why on Earth would you do such a thing?" Reese inquired.

"It's all about tradition, the cork is a sense of pride that I feel will be instilled in my players through its ps Callum Hudson-Odoi is recovering well after being diagnosed with coronavirus. The winger was the first Premier League player to be diagnosed with the illness.Lampard said: "I'm happy to say that in Callum's case, he has made great progress and almosresence," Seddon remarked.

Reese, still visibly perplexed by the coach's remarks, asked Seddon if he had any other secrets to his success on the diamond.

"Gargling a variety of liquids in the dugout has also given me much happiness over the years," Seddon declared. "Some guys like chewing tobacco, bubble gum, or sunflower seeds, but for me there is nothing quite like gargling a V-8 or an RC Cola with the bases loaded."

At this point in the interview, Reese ceased to ask any more questions, but Seddon continued on with his banter. Seddon declared that his previous position as head coach of the men's soccer team in the sixties prepared him immensely for his current position.

"Soccer and baseball are indelibly alike," Seddon said. "I just couldn't give you a reason why."

Reese's facial expressions told the story as he ended the interview and thanked the coach with a truly surprised look on his face.

When reached for comment, his players were not taken off guard by Seddon's remarks.

"Coach Seddon has been gargling strawberry Kwik for years," senior Steve Glass said. "It's just something that comes with the territory when you play for him."

"For the most part, I don't really understandr Owen Hargreaves feels they're asking too much of Marcus Rashford.Speaking to Premier League Productions, Hargreaves said he has has doubts over whether Rashford can fill the forward void left by the summer departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan. most of what Coach Seddon says or does," se has again declared his former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho will bring success to Tottenham.Bale is happy to see Mourinho in charge of Spurs. And he stated: "The fact that Mourinho has arrived is a strong and clear message from the club. "José is nior Nick Italiano said. "But when at the end of the day, we come out with a win, it really doesn't matter if coach is gargling egg nog during the seventh-inning stretch or not."

  • Tyreek Hill claims he was teaching his son to box, apologizes for ‘disrespectful’ language

For the first time , spoke to the media on Sunday and apologized for featuring about his child and then fiancee Crystal Espinal.

In the audio, Hill is heard telling Espinal "You  of me, too, b--ch" when she tells him that the child is "terrified" of Hill. It is not up for debate whether or not it was Hill on the audio. He has admitted as much. During his press conference Sunday, Hill referred to that language as "disrespectful."

I'm just here to man up to what I did. On audio. My bad language. I'm going to man up to that. I don't want nobody talking to my little sister, my daughter, my mom like that. It's very disrespectful."

The message Hill was attempting to convey makes sense. The words he used? It doesn't feel as if the situation had the full impact on him that one would hope. Telling a woman -- or, really, any other human being -- they need to be terrified of re is out of Saturday's clash against Newcastle. The 27-year-old - who missed last weekend's draw against Sheffield United to injury - is battling a minor groin injury.Wilshere has featured in eight games this season in all competitions, but has been you and using the B word? Disrespectful is selling those words a little short.

Hill was also asked by reporters about Espinal's claims that he punches their child in the chest. In the audio, she said "Which you do, when he starts crying. Which you do. You make him open up his arms and you punch him in the chest. And then if he gets in trouble, you get the belt out."

The receiver, in what was the final question allowed by PR, claimed he "really can't get into that" and then attempted to say that the punching was a reference to boxing lessons he would give his son because the child is a fan of super heroes and likes to box.

That's not a typo: Hill's literal excuse was that his son "loves Iron Man" and so sometimes he boxes with his three-year-old child.

"Punching my son in the chest would probably refer to me teaching my son how to box," Hill said. "Cause we do got boxing gloves at our house. And our son, like, he's like Iron Man, he loves Iron Man, Aqua Man, he's like 'Daddy, daddy, come on,' all the time."

Kids like to rough house. They do it frequently. But the idea that a three-year-old being a fan of Iron Man and Aqua Man and therefore wanting to engage in physical combat does not really compute. It sounds like a questionable excuse provided for a terrible, alleged parenting act. There is never an excuse for punching a three-year-old child. Nothing could possibly justify it. Ever.

It is worth noting that on the original audio that leaked out, . And on Sunday he said that things get the EFL Trophy after defeat to Tranmere Rovers.Tahith Chong's double was not enough for United to qualify from their group after falling to a 3-2 defeat to League Two side Tranmere Rovers. An entertaining first half saw United go a goal down after ontaken "out of context" when "feelings get involved."

Hill was cleared of all charges by the district attorney in the matter, although the DA did say the belief was some crime occurred, but prosecutors and authorities could not determine who did the act in question.

"This office has reviewed all the evidence and has declined to file charges against Tyreek Hill and Crystal Espinal," Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe said. "We are deeply troubled by the situation. We be to warn his players before Matty Longstaff's winning goal for Newcastle on debut.Solskjaer was seen giving instructions to Andreas Pereira on the touchline in the second half but struggled to get his message across to Scott McTominay and Fred as he lieve a crime has occurred; however, the evidence in this case doesn't establish who committed a crime."

The did its investigation leading up to training camp and ultimately concluded it could not determine if Hill violated the Personal Conduct Policy.

In that time, Brown has gone from one of the league's best wide receivers, to a selfish distraction now looking for a new contract, and perhaps the Steelers .

Luckily for Roethlisberger and the offense, Rooney isn't of that opinion.

This isn't to say that Brown can sometimes be a handful, but an acknowledgment that he's not a Terrell Owens-type locise on Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks after his display against Montenegro.Winks' growing imprint on England's plans have not got unnoticed by Southgate, who has dropped a heavy hint that the midfielder has played his way into becoming a key starteker room cancer, or a player who is constantly finding himself on the wrong side of the law.

Also encouraging: Rooney sounds like the organization feels comfortable that , who was suspended for the first three games of the 2016 season, has matured. And as such, it is the Steelers' intention to lock him up long term.

The news isn't quite as encouraging for the Steelers' other young star.
