Jamie Vardy’s CV is packed with titles and he will add the Premier League crown with , according to the man who plucked him from obscurity. Fleetwood chairman Andy Pilley paid £150,000 to sign Vardy for the then Conference club in August 2011. The striker, who had won divisions previously lower down the pyramid with Halifax and Stocksbridge, then smashed 34 goals to fire them to the title. His goals and infectious attitude was also crucial , with the striker notching 16 times. Now Vardy’s 18 goals have helped 5,000-1 shots Leicester with 13 games remaining after their stunning 3-1 win at Man City. did not score at the Etihad, where fellow key man Riyad Mahrez took his tally to 15 goals and 10 assists. But Pilley is confident the in-form England striker, can finish in first place both in the league and golden boot. Pilley told Mirror Sport: “Jamie Vardy wins leagues, whether it be Halifax, or Leicester. “Leicester won the Championship and it looks like they are going to go on and win the Premier League. It cannot be coincidence. I really fancy Leicester to get over the line. “Jamie’s desire and work-rate becomes infectious to the rest of the team and having that is such a powerful ingredient. “Leicester all play without fear and I don’t think Leicester are going to wobble with the likes of Jamie. He believes in himself, has exceptional ability on top of that and exceptional speed. "He is a tough character who won’t be intimidated and he seems to keep improving. He takes the chances he creates or his team-mates create for him. He will help enormously win trophies for your club. “I don’t think such raw pace exists among any other player in the Premier League. But content_imgformer factory worker Vardy has captured much of the attention for both his fairytale story and energy, will-to-win and goals – . It brought back memories for Pilley of Vardy scoring from inside the centre circle for Fleetwood as he bagged a hat-trick in a 6-2 home win against Ebbsfleet. He added: “His goal against Liverpool was stunning but he scored from 45 yards for us. It was a different kind of goal because the keeper was off his line and he lobbed him. “It wasn’t as powerful a strike, it was more of a float but it was still fantastic.” Vardy’s exploits this term have already earned him a new contract until 2019 worth £80,000-a-week. It is a far cry from when the forward signed for Fleetwood on £1,000-a-week before moving to Leicester for £1million 10 months later. Pilley recalled: “We offered him four figures a week, his eyes lit up and his mind had moved by then. “We are proud to have had him at our club and are not surprised he has gone on to do what he has done. “He hasn’t won the league yet but he broke that Premier League record and I fully expect him to get the golden boot as well which would be quite a season. “I’ve read he is now on £80,000-a-week and he has to be worth that if he can be instrumental in Leicester winning the league - which it looks like he can be.” Next up for Vardy and Leicester is Sunday’s trip to Arsenal as they bid to take a step nearer completing the greatest story in the recent history of the English game. • Diego Costa’s rap sheet: 5 times the striker hit the headlines after Oscar training ground bust-up

Love him or loathe him - is box office. The temperamental Spaniard continues to hit the headlines for his unpredictable antics, following at Cobham on Thursday. It isn't the first time the striker has been in the news for a controversial incident - with a host of opponents being on the wrong end of his temper over the years. Here - we take a look at five of those occasions. Oscar training ground bust-up Costa was involved in a confrontation with teammate Oscar at Cobham training base on Thursday morning. The pair clashed furiously and had to be separated by fellow players and coaching staff. It came during a particularly intense training session ahead of the club’s FA Cup tie against Scunthorpe this weekend. Oscar is understood to have gone in on Costa with what has been described as “a particularly hefty tackle”. Spain striker Costa is alleged to have responded in kind with an even stronger challenge that left Oscar incensed. The pair then squared up and exchanged angry words before others came between them. It is understood Oscar came off considerably worse from the two tackles. Club sources, however, insist the pair eventually calmed down and were seen going towards the changing rooms together. Studs to the chest of Martin Skrtel Having clashed in previous meetings between the two sides - all eyes were on Costa and Martin Skrtel when Liverpool travelled to Anfield in October. Two no-nonsense players, neither gave an inch in the match, which ended with the Reds running out 3-1 winners at Stamford Bridge. The flashpoint came on the hour mark, when Costa seemed to drive his studs into the chest of Skrtel, with the defender's low-key reaction arguably saving his opponent from further punishment. Despite the television pictures - Costa received no retrospective action. Stamp on Emre Can Costa hit the headlines in January last year as he was caught by television cameras stamping on midfielder Emre Can. The incident came during the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg between the two sides at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues prevailing 2-1 on aggregate to reach Wembley. They would eventually win the competition. Unlike with the Skrtel incident - Costa was retrospectively punished by the FA for the stamp on Can. He was given a three-match ban, missing games against Manchester City, Aston Villa and Everton. Laurent Koscielny clash Another retrospective ban would come Costa's way in September last year, for an incident with defender Laurent Koscielny. The incident also led tcontent_imgo Costa being dropped from the Spain squad. Chelsea won the game 2-0. Sergio Ramos 'spit' incident During his days at Atletico Madrid - Costa also had plenty of controversial moments. One came in 2012, during a league derby against Atletico's city rivals Real. Costa had tussled with Los Blancos defensive pairing Sergio Ramos and Pepe all game, with television cameras catching one particular incident which seey midfielder Phil Foden admits the title race could be decided this month.City are now 11 points runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool.“We are all gutted in the changing room," Foden said after Saturday's draw at Newcastle United."We wanted to gmed to show Costa spitting into his hand and throwing it towards Ramos. has landed his second Manager of the Month award after steering to the brink of glory. The Italian's Foxes have a seven-point lead at the top of the table with just six games left to play - and they have hit form at the right time in the season. March brought a run of three clean sheets - which would later be extended to four inside April - and 10 points from a possible 12. A series of 1-0 victories over Watford, Newcastle and Crystal Palace ensured that Leicester continued to extend their lead over their title rivals. The 2-2 draw with West Brom at the start of the month even proved to be valuable as it came on a week where all of their closest competitors were defeated. Ranieri has hailed the achievement of his side as "magical" but insists that there is still plenty of work to do. After the recent win over Southampton, he said: “We believe it's a magical season. Next season it will not be thcontent_imge same and so we try to do our best. We had to fight to win 1-0. “When they give me everything, their heart and soul, I'm happy. The England international was accused of being a 'one-year wonder' after his breakthrough campaign last year and he admits that those jibes have made success this season even sweeter. “Yes there was a lot of talk at the start of the season (about a one season wonder) but I have a lot of self-belief, I believe in my ability,” he explained. “Whenever anyone tells you you can’t do something or that you’re not as good as you think you are, you want to prove them wrong. “Of course I want to do the best I can for myself anyway, but when people are telling me I can’t do it, it makes it even better for me when I go out there and work hard and do what I do and achieve what I achieve. “Obviously, I’ve gone ahead of last season but it doesn’t stop here - there are six games left for me to as possible.” This year Barormer Barcelona reject, it has been revealed. While Manchester United's decision to pass on the Brazilian has been highlighted this week, it's also been confirmed Martinelli had two weeks at La Masia. The attacker, then still with FC Ituano, trained wiclays is giving any football fan in the UK over the age of 16 the chance to present the BPL trophy to the champions.
